Why HR Conclave?

It's getting harder for HR professionals and new hires alike as markets contract and employment decline. The days of several companies hiring hundreds of students directly off college are long gone. The student who possesses the necessary abilities in line with the market will now be hired. All students must possess the flexibility to relearn and acquire new abilities. This is not limited to employing new employees; companies are now requesting that lateral hires unlearn existing skills and pick up necessary new technology.

At GNI, we prepare our students for the demands of the job market by keeping them abreast of developments in the industry. In an effort to assist both our students and those from other schools and institutions, we are planning an HR Conclave for March 16, 2024, on our campus. HR professionals from a variety of firms are attending this conclave and will be assisting the students in developing the best strategy for securing the right job. Each HR is just like a book having chapters of experiences that are very important for every student. These lessons are worth millions to the students, and we are incredibly grateful to all of the HR professionals who have consistently helped us keep our students up to date with the latest developments in the industry.

“Campus placements at both engineering and B-schools, are going down looming concern.”

Points To be Considered:
Layoffs and Downsizing:One97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm, has announced a "slight reduction in workforce" as a measure to reduce costs. Media reports indicate that the number of job losses exceeds 1,000, constituting close to 10% of the company's employees. Paytm's downsizing is part of a broader trend within the industry, where several companies have resorted to job cuts following a prolonged period of limited funding and investor demands for clearer revenue and profit visibility. According to layoff.fyi, a total of 16,298 individuals have been laid off in 2023. However, this figure is likely to be considerably higher as many of the 125 companies that reported layoffs did not disclose the exact number of employees affected.
Unprecedented New Age of Progress (AI & AUTOMATION):More than a quarter of job roles are facing substantial disruption due to automation. In 2016, this equated to 36 million jobs, with over 70% at high risk of being replaced by automation. Projections for 2030 suggest that 36% of American workers will face moderate exposure to these technologies, while 39%—equivalent to 57 million jobs—will have minimal exposure. As per experts, Google is considering a significant restructuring of its 30,000-person advertising sales division, driven by its accelerated integration of AI technology, leading to concerns about possible layoffs. This comes in the wake of the company already letting go of nearly 12,000 employees in 2023. As the year approaches its end, the central issue confronting India is whether its remarkable economic growth can generate sufficient employment opportunities, particularly in the face of the most significant disruption of all: the rise of artificial intelligence (AI).
Skill Doom (Skill Based Hirings):In a post on X, RPG Group chairman Harsh Goenka acknowledges widespread unemployment concerns but notes his company's struggle to find skilled labor. He cites challenges including shortages of construction workers, truck drivers, and plantation workers, expressing bewilderment at the absence of solutions. The issue appears to be worsening continuously. TeamLease Services data indicates that India is facing a concerning shortage of approximately 150 million skilled workers, up from 138 million in 2020. Key sectors affected include automotive and auto components (35 million), construction (33 million), textiles and clothing (26 million), transportation and logistics (18 million), retail (17 million), and healthcare (13 million), among others.
